Planeta Venus hosted its first ever Latino Award Ceremony. It was an evening filled with joy, diversity, and recognition as members of the Latino community of Kansas, sponsors and other members of the community gathered to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the state. Held at The Niche, a stunning venue provided by WSU Tech, the event brought together approximately 150 guests to celebrate the achievements of sixteen remarkable Latinos across seven categories: Community Service, A Difference in Education, A Healthier Kansas, Business Development, Civic Engagement, Arts & Culture, and the prestigious Legacy Award.
The evening commenced with a captivating performance by Daysi Sosa, known as "La Wapa," whose beautiful renditions of Spanish songs set a warm and festive tone for the night. As guests enjoyed a delicious meal provided by Bill's Charcoal Grill, featuring chicken and beef fajitas, rice and beans, horchata, and agua de mango, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and anticipation. Custom-decorated cookies, adorned with the ceremony logo, added a special touch to the culinary experience.
Throughout the night, Planeta Venus presented awards to sixteen outstanding individuals who have left a lasting impact on Kansas through their dedication and service. The winners, representing a wide range of fields, were honored for their leadership and commitment to the betterment of their communities.
Following the awards presentation, DJ MS energized the crowd with vibrant Latino music, transforming the patio into a lively dance floor. Attendees also enjoyed capturing memories at the 360° photo booth, which added a fun and interactive element to the celebration.
"It was a dream come true," said Claudia Yaujar-Amaro, founder of Planeta Venus and organizer of the event. "Seeing the diversity in the space and recognizing the contributions of these sixteen amazing Latinos to our state made me realize all the hard work and love we often overlook in our daily routine.
